Huntingburg (NNDC) – Construction of the new Market Street Project in Huntingburg is now scheduled to begin in August.

The announcement was made by the Huntingburg City Council.

The park creates a space in the heart of downtown for events and activities that connects 4th Street to Market Street.

The park will also enhance the use of the city’s “Old Town Hall,” and will make Market Street a a community gathering point according to Mayor Denny Spinner.

Spinner also says the park is a key element of the city’s comprehensive Downtown Revitalization Plan.

The park will feature an open entrance from Fourth Street, just east of the Current Blend building which the city has recently purchased.

The estimated $2.9 million cost will be funded with Indiana Office of Community Rural Affairs’ community development block grant money awarded to Huntingburg for its Stellar Communities designation along with local tax incremental funds, economic development income tax funds and private monies.
