Work On 231 Bridge Over Patoka River Begins Today

Jasper (NNDC) – Work on the U. S. 231 bridge over the Patoka River between Jasper and Huntingburg begins today.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says crews will begin restricting traffic on the southbound lane of U.S. 231 about a mile south of Jasper so work can begin on what INDOT says is a deck overlay project on the bridge

INDOT says the overlay is a preventative maintenance measure that will increase the lifespan of the bridge deck for several years and protect the structural integrity of the bridge as a whole.

INDOT says trucks and vehicles with load that are more than 11 feet wide will need to find an alternate route.

Work is expected to take until mid-October to complete.

Restrictions will be in place around the clock controlled by temporary traffic signals.

INDOT says drivers are urged to slow down and stay alert near crews.
