Finally! Construction Of Long-Awaited “Overpass” In Huntingburg Underway

Huntingburg (Local Sources) – Construction of the long-awaited “overpass” over Huntingburg’s ‘infamous’ railroad tracks is now officially underway.

Thursday morning, a groundbreaking ceremony took place today for the city’s railroad overpass project.

DLZ Indiana, LLC is the engineering firm responsible for design of the project and E&B Paving is the contractor.

“This project has been discussed at the City for over 50 years, so to see it finally happening is very exciting for our community,” says Huntingburg Mayor Denny Spinner.

“We are grateful to our partners at the county and the Indiana Department of Transportation for helping us make this project a reality.”

Spinner was joined at the groundbreaking ceremony by city, county, state officials and others (see photo).

Upon completion, this project will provide an overpass that will connect 14th Street and Styline Drive.

More than 8,000 vehicles travel U.S. 231 in Huntingburg daily.

The overpass will give motorists in Huntingburg an option across the railroad tracks that cross through the city (including U. S. 231) and are used by quite often by Northfolk Southern causing traffic delays.
