2017 Jasper Strassenfest Hofmarschall Named

Ron CharlotteThe 2017 Jasper Strassenfest Committee Thursday announced Ron Flick as the Hofmarschall, or Grand Marshall, for the 39th annual Strassenfest celebration.

As a professional architect and avid historian, Ron Flick truly represents this year’s theme, “Celebrating Traditions, Building Our Future.” Ron Flick is a member of the fourth generation German-American Flick family whose ancestors first settled in Jasper in 1848.

In addition to having served as the Strassenfest Chairman in 2007 and 2008, Ron served on the Strassenfest Committee for several years in the role of Historian. Additionally, Ron has documented the pictorial history of Dubois County in his book, “Images of America: Jasper and Huntingburg.”

A 1978 graduate of Jasper High School, Ron has an extensive knowledge of Dubois County family histories, German-American traditions – particularly related to the Schnitzelbank Song – and without a doubt, one of the largest collections of historic Dubois County photos and documents in a private collection. In the past, Ron has worked as a volunteer at the Dubois County Museum and as a member of ROJAC. He is a member of the Indiana German Heritage Society Board of Directors, and recently completed his term as Vice President of the organization.

Professionally, Ron is a member of the firm, Pyramid Architects, based in Indianapolis, and works on a variety of projects across the state. He is currently involved in the renovation of the historic Astra Theatre in Jasper. His past projects locally include the Jasper Mill, St. Joseph’s Church balcony, and the Jasper Train Depot.

Ron and his wife, Charlotte Ottinger (pictured), reside in historic Irvington, a suburb of Indianapolis, while frequently visiting their historic home in Jasper. In addition to their passion for travel and historical research, both Ron and Charlotte enjoy spending time with their six children and three grandchildren.
