Anna Kern

Anna Malinda Kern, 90, of Jasper, died Saturday (April 1) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in Perry County March 2, 1927, to Andrew and Agnes (Zoglman) Sitzman. She married Leo P. Kern February 15, 1947, at St. Meinrad Archabbey Church. He died October 11, 1988.

Anna was a member of St. Boniface Parish in Fulda and its Ladies Sodality. She was an active member of the quilting group at St. Boniface. A former regional farm bureau woman’s leader, she was a member of the Tell City square dancing club, a lifetime member of Farm Bureau, the Fulda Sportsman Club, and Spencer County Co-Op. She traveled to every state in union and visited Canada and Mexico. She enjoyed quilting, square dancing, crossword puzzles, reading the farmer’s almanac, gardening, and canning vegetables and flowers.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Franchville, Tell City, and Sandra Ward and husband Gary, Santa Claus; two sons, Louis Kern and wife Karen, Fulda, and Ken Kern and wife Annette, Jasper; daughter-in-law Marilyn Simon, Jasper; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Leroy and Bobby Kern, one grandson, Aaron Franchville, one son-in law, Bud Franchville, three brothers, Roman, Dan, and Ronnie Sitzman, and two sisters, Rose Marie Pfieffer and Romilda Oser.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
