Tip Leads To Felony Drug Arrest; Huntingburg Man In Custody



Jasper (NNDC) – An anonymous tip has resulted in the arrest of a Huntingburg man on felony drug charges.

Arrested Friday morning was 26-year old Bryce Englert of Huntingburg.

Jasper Police say they received late Friday morning about possible drug activity at a Jasper motel.

JPD then requested assistance from the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department and its K-9 ‘Karma,’who JPD says alerted officers of the presence of illegal narcotics on the door of a motel room at Super 8 on Indiana Street.

Officers, with the assistance of the Dubois County Prosecutors Office, sought and were granted a search warrant for the motel room. During the search, officers also located a vehicle registered Englert who was renting the room at the hotel.

A search of the vehicle located 15.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine packaged for delivery, less than 30 grams of suspected Marijuana as well as several items of drug paraphernalia.

Common Nuisance (a Level 6 felony).

He also faces misdemeanor charges of Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia.

Englert was taken into custody and booked at the Dubois County Security Center. He is currently being held under a $20,000 cash/$40,000 surety bond.

Jasper Police want to thank the public for the tip that led to Englert’s arrest.

JPD says says the public’s help is necessary for officers to combat drug use in our area.

Intercepted Package Found to Contain Nearly One Pound of Marijuana



Jasper (Local Sources) – A morning investigation of possible shipping of narcotics hasĀ landed a Jasper woman behind bars.

Friday morning, Master Trooper Brian LaRoche, along with Dubois County Deputy Jesus Monarrez and DCSD K-9 Karma, visited a local shipping company to investigate for possible shipments of narcotics.

After a positive alert by Karma on a suspicious package, officers obtained a search warrant and found the box to contain nearly one pound of marijuana, wrapped with coffee beans.

Then, at just before 10:00AM, officers delivered the package to 802 Hasenour Avenue in Jasper.

An officer was met at the door by 49-year old Amaleah Black-Smiley.

When asked, Black-Smiley identified herself by a different name, but the same name listed as the intended recipient of the package.

After taking delivery of the box, Black-Smiley was placed in custody charged with misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.
