Ruth Ann Hynes, 86, Jasper

Ruth HynesRuth Ann Hynes, 86, of Jasper, died Wednesday (March 15) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Campus in Jasper. She was born in Jasper August 7, 1930, to Felix and Frances (Bohro) Kunkel. She married Thomas Hynes August 28 1954, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

After working at Memorial Hospital for a short time, Ruth was employed by Dr. Edward Ploetner. In the early 1970s Ruth and her husband opened “Adventures in Travel”- Jasper’s first travel agency. Her last employment was as a receptionist for the Dodson Accounting Office. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and was involved in the church commissions, including volunteering her time reading at mass. She expressed herself through painting landscapes, she hunted game with her father, and enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She enjoyed tennis, golf, and bowling and watching Indiana University and Indiana Pacers basketball games.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Hynes; three sons, Jim Hynes and wife Lori, Indianapolis, David Hynes and wife Carla, Evansville, and Dan Hynes and wife Amy, Cuzco; two daughters, Lynn Freyre-Montero and husband Omar, Indianapolis, and Lisa Hynes, Stamford, Connecticut; one brother, Alan Kunkel and wife Brenda, Jasper; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Jim Kunkel.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Daughters of Isabella will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
