Jasper (Local Sources) – Tourism is thriving in Dubois County, according to a study by market research firm Rockport Analytics.

The study shows visitor spending totaling $82 million in 2016, an 11.7 percent increase from 2015.

Kevin Manley, the executive director of the Dubois County Visitors Center & Tourism Commission says, “Tourism is not only good for the local economy but also has many other benefits for the community.”

He goes on to say, “Without tourism, each household in Dubois County would have to pay an additional $359 per year in taxes to maintain current state and local levels.”

The study was commissioned by the Indiana Office of Tourism Development and supported by Radius Indiana.

The study says 73 cents of every dollar spent on tourism in Dubois County stays locally.

Dubois County ranks 14th among Indiana’s 92 counties in tourism sales per capita, No. 24 in regional spending by visitors and No. 29 in regional spending growth.
