Huntingburg (NNDC) – An early morning chimney fire was cause of some anxious moments Friday.

At about four this morning (Friday), Holland firefighters were called to the Leroy & Darlene Frick home on their farm just oJf West Holland Road East west of U. S. 231.

Additional manpower was summoned to the scene when smoke filled the Fricks two-story home causing concern the house itself had caught fire.

Holland Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief John Hemmer said the base of the chimney remained very hot for some time, but it did not spread to the house’s structure or into the home’s walls..

HVFD firefighters were on scene for about an and a half.

Hemmer says with much colder temperatures coming to the local area this weekend, residents with fireplaces need to make sure they are in proper working order and property cleaned before using them.
