Schroeder Returns To Jasper Council; Messmer To Head County GOP

Jasper (NNDC) – After being away a little more than five years, former Jasper City Councilman John Schroeder can remove the word ‘former’ from that title.

The Dubois County Democrats caucused Saturday and vote to return Schroeder to the council replacing current councilman Greg Schnarr.

Schnarr has served on Jasper’s governing body since he was elected to represent the city’s 2nd District in November of 2011.

Schnarr filled the seat that was occupied by Schroeder at the time.

Schroeder, who served on the council from 2001-2011, did not run for a fourth term at the time because he was planning to move outside the district; but that never happened.

Instead, Schnarr has recently moved out of the district, thus the reason he is stepping down.

The Jasper council’s next meeting is Wednesday, March 23rd at 7:00pm.

Meanwhile, Dubois County Republicans also met on Saturday. The local GOF elected new party officers for 2017.

State Senator Mark Messmer was elected as party Chairman and Kitty Merkley was elected Vice-Chairman.

Others elected to office include Christine Prior as Secretary, and Justin Kluemper as Treasurer.

All officers were elected unanimously. Messmer takes over for outgoing chairman, Don Hayes who has held the post for several years during separate terms.
