Ida M. Gehlhausen, 74, Ferdinand

Ida GehlhausenIda M. Gehlhausen, 74, of Ferdinand, died Monday (February 28) at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born in St. Meinrad December 26, 1945, to Albert and Frieda (Gessner) Fetter. She married Bernard “Bennie” Sanders October 14, 1967, in St. Meinrad Catholic Church. He died April 7, 1993. She married Leonard B. Gehlhausen, Sr. December 26, 1994, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Ida was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and the Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 auxillary. She was a housekeeper and worked in the Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center cafeteria. She volunteered for a number of area charities and enjoyed playing cards, cooking, cleaning, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard B. Gehlhausen; two sons, Keith Sanders and fiancé Terra Fuhs, Lake Helmerich Village, and Lieutenant Col. Michael Sanders and wife Kathy, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, one step-son, Leonard B. Gehlhausen, Huntingburg; two step-daughters, Jody Kessinger and husband Dale, Evanston, and Christy Beadles, Huntingburg; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eileen Artmeyer and husband Robert. .

In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Daniel, Sylvan, Delbert Fetter, and two in infancy, four sisters, Arlinda Wendholt, Jeanette Buechler, Lietta Wendholt, and one in infancy.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday and after 7 a.m. Saturday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences may be made at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
