Jasper (NNDC) – School officials arriving at Jasper High School Friday morning found posted flyers with an invitation to celebrate straight pride at JHS!

The first line of the flyer (pictured) says “Celebrate being straight at JHS by not annoying the heck out of everyone about your sexual orientation.”

NNDC has been told the flyers were taken down be fore any students arrived at school this morning and the person responsible has been identified by school officials.

Principal Brian Wilson says the student responsible for the flyer has been identified.  Wilson says the student was  advised putting the flyers up was “not appropriate,” and the matter is being handled internally.

Wilson did acknowledge that Greater Jasper schools superintendent Dr. Tracy Lorey has issued a statement on the matter internally to staff, students and parents.

The flyers are believed to be in response to a banner that was hung at the school earlier (also pictured) by an LGBT support group made up mostly of JHS students.   And after a group picture of the group was posted on Facebook Monday evening (below).

Jasper High School has a  Gay Straight Alliance advocacy group which boasts 50 members according to its Facebook.  The Alliance also has a JHS faculty member as a co-leader.
