Ireland (NNDC) – ANCHOR ON CAM

The cleanup effort in Ireland in Dubois County continues, and in some places the effort is in high gear.

One of the reasons for that is there’s a celebration planned that officially kicks off tomorrow (FRIDAY)…

This year’s St. Paddy’s Celebration Mayor is Clara Mae Braunecker of Shamrock Cabinets. Clara Mae will be 90 years young in December.

TEXT OF STORY…

Now that the initial shock of the storms are subsided a bit, folks here in Ireland are busy with what one resident is calling a massive cleanup
effort.

The cleanup at the Mehringer home just southwest of town continues.  It was one of three houses destroyed by Tuesday night’s E2 tornado continues.
Amy Eger’s mother and brother were home when the twister hit.   He got to the basement, but mom, unable to move without assistance, rode out the
storm in a chair in the living room. Amy says the family is counting their blessings… (AMY ON CAMERA)

Meanwhile, the cleanup at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in town is in of itself a miracle.  Volunteers, including many with chain saws have already
cleared much of the church’s grounds, including the many trees around statue of Mary of Baby Jesus that appears to be untouched from debris from
the storm… (SHARON SEIFERT ON CAMERA)

The storm hit Ireland just two weeks before the big weekend of its annual. Patty’s Day Celebration.  (SHARON ON CAMERA)

The big weekend of the St. Paddy’s Celebration is March 17th 8th and 19th.
