Oakland Red Hot Heading Into This Week’s Horizon League Post-Season Tournament

Cleveland (Local Sources) –  Taylor Jones connected on five 3-pointers and shot 10-for-20 from the field to score 26 points and lead Oakland over Cleveland State, 93-79, at the Wolstein Center on Saturday.

Jones, coming off the bench, also recorded seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Leah Somerfield tied her season-high in points (25) and rebounds (12), and went 10-for-12 from the free throw line. Taylor Gleason shot 8-for-15 from the field and finished with 21 points to round out the trio of Oakland players who surpassed the 20-point mark in the victory.

Former Northeast Dubois Lady Jeep Nicole Dodd, now a senior guard for Oakland started the ballgame for Oakland but did not score.

Oakland has secured the #4 seed in this week’s Horizon League post-season tournament.  Oakland finishes the regular season at 18-11 (12-6 in the conference).

The Golden Grizzlies won seven of their last eight regular season games including 5-0 on the road.  Oakland has gone 9-3 since Dodd was inserted into the starting lineup back on January 16th.

With the #4 in the tournament, Oakland gets a bye through the first two rounds.  The Golden Grizzlies will open tournament play Sunday, March 5th against Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2:30pm).

The tournament winner gets an automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA tournament.

The league tournament is being played at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit which is scheduled for demolition later this year.
