John C. Himsel, 53, Dubois

John HimselJohn C. Himsel, 53, of Dubois, died Tuesday (February 21) at his home. He was born in Troy, Missouri January 27, 1964, to James C. and Viola (Recker) Himsel.

John was a graduate of Jasper High School. He worked for Farbest Foods in Huntingburg, loved to read and liked history and science, collecting Indian artifacts, mushroom hunting, and traveling.

He is survived by six sisters, Wanda Haas, Jasper, Mary Hohl, Santa Claus, Angela Himsel Sacks and husband Selig, New York, New York, Elizabeth Eblen and husband Doug, Greenwood, Sarah Burcon and husband David, Ann Harbor, Michigan, and Rachael Himsel, Bloomington; three brothers, James R. Himsel and Edward Himsel and wife Kathy, all of Jasper, and Paul Himsel, Terre Haute; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his partner, Lucy Bove, and one sister, Abby Himsel.

Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. Saturday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. A prayer service is scheduled at 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Community Cemetery in Haysville at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the family or to a favorite charity.
