Harold Wellmeyer, 85, Holland

Harold WellemeyerHarold Wellmeyer, 85, of Holland, died Wednesday (February 22) at his home. He was born in Stendal May 9, 1931, to Herbert and Ethel Wellmeyer. He married Roberta Weitkamp June 17, 1961.

Harold grew up attending St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Stendal and began attending Zoar United Methodist Church after his marriage. He was a 1949 graduate of Stendal High School. in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army, until his honorable discharge in 1956 as a Staff Sergeant, assigned to the Atomic Artillery Unit stationed at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, and Baumholder, Germany. He worked for more than 25 years at Holland Dairy where he retired in 1993. He loved hunting, fishing, and taking rides at night to count deer, wild turkeys, and, in recent years, bald eagles.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Roberta Wellmeyer; one daughter, Connie Wellmeyer, Evansville; one son, Jeff Wellmeyer, Holland; two sisters, Rosemary Latta, Brazil, and Ruth Rauscher and husband Leon, Huntingburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Carla Jo Wellmeyer, and one sister, Mable Borman.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Zoar United Methodist Church. Memorials can be made to the church. Online condolences may be shared at www.nassandson.com. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zoar United Methodist Church, pastors Keith Chanley and Cindy Keck will officiate. Burial will follow in the Zoar Cemetery. Holland American Legion Post No. 343 will conduct military graveside rites.
