Clara P. Stemle, 99, Jasper

Clara StemleClara P. Stemle, 99, of Jasper, died Wednesday (February 22) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born in Scott City, Missouri, October 15, 1917, to William and Elizabeth (Seyer) Blattel. She had two marriages. She married Leroy J. Egler December 26, 2940, in Kelso, Missouri. He was killed June 4, 1945,in combat in the Philippines during World War II. She then married John Stemle July 2, 1959, in St. Joseph Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1998.

Clara retired as a head cook for the Greater Jasper School Corporation, where she was instrumental in starting the first school cafeteria in Jasper. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed cooking, baking cookies, and spending time with her grandchildren.

she is survived by one son, Gary Egler and wife Rita, Jasper; one brother, Leon Blattel, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, three grandchildren, Debbie Mann, Jennifer Ulsomer, and Tom Egler, and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Maria Gawthorp, Alvina Haase, Dorothy Miller, and Virginia Mehringer; and two brothers, Theon Blattel and Paul Blattel.

Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial following in Fairview Cemetery Jasper at a later date.
