Dubois County Man Escapes Serious Injury When His Car Crashes In Semi On I-64

schmitt vehicleLynnville (Local Sources) – Police are saying a seatbelt saved the life of a Jasper man after the car he was driving Tuesday night crashed into the rear of  a semi-tractor/trailer.

Indiana State Police and the Warrick County Sheriff’s Department say 21-year old Derek Schmitt was driving eastbound on I-64 west of Lynnville when he looked away from the roadway to read a text message he had received.

Police say Schmitt then collided into the rear of the tractor-trailer (see photo).

Schmitt was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

His vehicle was totaled. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
