Loogootee Woman Charged With Homicide In Fatal DUI Crash

ChristmasLoogootee (WEHT/NNDC) – A Loogootee woman accused of drunk driving is now also facing a negligent homicide charge after a wreck where a car ended up in a lake.

According to Daviess County Sheriff’s Deputies, the crash happened on County Road 1200 East.

When deputies got to the scene, they say a vehicle was submerged in West Boggs Lake. Deputies immediately jumped into the water when they saw someone was still inside.

That person stuck inside was passenger, Joyce Christmas. She was transported to Daviess County Community Hospital where she later died.

The driver of the vehicle was Heather Christmas of Loogootee (pictured), was taken to the hospital as well for injuries

Heather Christmas was later released from the hospital, but was immediately placed under arrest by deputies. She’s facing charges of driving under the influence and negligent homicide in the Daviess County, Indiana Detention Center.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office said the vehicle left the roadway striking several cable barriers for an unknown reason that’s still being investigated.
