Diana L. “Cricket” Cook, 80, Birdseye

Diana CookDiana L. “Cricket” Cook, 80, of Birdseye, died Wednesday (February 15) at The Timbers of Jasper. She was born in Newton Stewart March 15, 1936, to James Douglas and Ora (Hollen) McFarland. She married Clifton Clarence “Jack” Cook, Jr. June 29, 1952, in Wickliffe.

Diane worked at Gossards in Huntingburg and as a cook at Pine Ridge Elementary School. She was a member of New Hope General Baptist Church in Birdseye where she sang in the choir. She was a campground host at Bear Lake and Indian Celina Lake in Perry County and enjoyed gardening, quilting, cross stitch, camping, and fishing.

She is survived by her husband, Clifton “Jack” Cook; one daughter, Mary Snelling and husband Eli, Wickliffe; one sister, Faye Weightman, Evansville; eight grandchildren, Dawn Detty and husband Joe, Birdseye, Shawn Cook and wife Angie, Velpen, Shanna Cook and husband Chad and Erica Scherzinger and husband Ryan, all of Jasper, Chris Cook and wife Ashley, Newburgh, Andy Snelling and wife Dana, Wickliffe, David Neukam and wife Shelley, Celestine, and Mike Neukam and wife Candance, Memphis, Tennessee; 14 great grandchildren, Kyle & Kristen Detty, Levi, Wyatt, Grace Allinger, Hunter and Evan Snelling, Paige, Meredith, and Grayson Cook, Nichole Hunter, Landon Harlee, Marshal Scherzinger, and Dawson McBride; and one great-great-grandson, Keaton Neukam.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Cliff and Doug Cook.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Online condolences may be shared at www.nassandson.com. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at New Hope General Baptist Church with burial following in Birdseye Cemetery. Rev. Albert Madden will officiate at the service.
