Racine Victoria O’Connell, 99, Jasper

Racine Victoria O'ConnellRacine Victoria O’Connell, 99, of Jasper, died Tuesday (February 14) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born in Logan, Ohio, December 30, 1917, to Cyrus and Marie (Brown) Rochester. She married Francis O’Connell June 23, 1945. He died February 1, 2014.

Racine was a graduate of Logan High School in Logan, Ohio. She worked at the Department of Children and Family Services. She was an advocate for children and the unborn. She enjoyed working with the monks at St. Meinrad Seminary.

She is survived by five sons, Pat O’Connell and wife Linda, Terre Haute, Mike O’Connell and wife Linda, Springville, Jim O’Connell and wife Louise, Paoli, Dan O’Connell and wife Ann, Portage, Michigan, and Kevin O’Connell and wife Janet, Elk River, New Mexico; three daughters, Therese Hochstetler and husband Bob, Jasper, Kathleen Abernathy and husband John, Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Katie O’Connell, Bloomington; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Father Vic Subb, Glenmary, will conduct a vigil service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to the monks of St. Meinrad at St. Meinrad Archabbey, 100 Hill Drive, St. Meinrad, IN 47577, the Carmelite Sisters, 59 Allendale, Terre Haute, IN 47802, or the Little Sisters of the Poor, 2345 W. 86th St, Indianapolis, IN 46260. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Ben Syberg and Father Eugene Hensell, OSB, at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
