Irene V. Eckerle, 100, Jasper

Irene EckerleIrene V. Eckerle, 100 of Jasper, died Monday (February 6) at Hamilton Trace Senior Living Community in Fishers. She was a lifelong Jasper resident before relocating to Fishers in 2013 to be closer to her children. She was born in Jasper September 22, 1916, to George and Rose (Buechlein) Wilz. She married Arnold L. Eckerle September 4, 1943, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He died January 1, 1996.

Irene was a 1934 graduate of Jasper High School and a graduate of Lockyear Business College in Evansville. Following graduation she was employed in the office of the Hoosier Desk Company. During World War II she worked in military bases for the civil service at various locations to which her husband was assigned. These included bases in Colorado, California and Oklahoma. She retired from the 10th Street School culinary department in 1978. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and its St. Anne’s Society and was a member of VFW Post No. 673 Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice Kaye and husband Robert, Noblesville, and Arlene McDonald and husband Scott, Fishers; one son, Daniel (Deloris) Eckerle and wife Deloris, Franklin, Tennessee; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dr. John Eckerle and wife Margaret, Louisville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Cornelia Beeman, and two brothers, John W. and Ambrose Wilz.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
