Bloomington (NNDC) – At Southridge High School, the Raiders’ wrestling team of head coach Dave Shank finished fifth overall in Saturday’s IHSAA Regional.
Host Bloomington South took the team title with 164.5 points followed by Edgewood (145), Terre Haute North (86), Terre Haute South (84) and Southridge (63). Forest Park (12) and Jasper (8) finished 12th and 15th (out of 17) in the team standings.
Southridge did have two individual weight class champions. They include senior Jack Michel at 195 lbs. and sophomore Tucker Shank at 152.
The Raiders had two other wrestlers advance to this Saturday’s SemiState at the Ford Center in Evansville; Logan Meyerholtz at 106 and Drew Dearing at 138. Meyerholtz was 3rd in his weight class; Dearing was 4th.
Forest Park’s Luke Fleck (145) and Jasper’s Ethan Wigand (145) also advance to the SemiState with their 3rd and 4th place finishes. Fleck outlasted Wigand, 4-2, in Saturday’s consolation match at 145.
Meanwhile, Michel pinned (3:47) Chris Barclay of Terre Haute South to win the 195 blue ribbon.
Shank won his match outlasting Denver Aydelott of Edgewood winning in a sudden death overtime period after the match ended in a tie after regulation and two overtime periods.
