Local Woman Charged With Death Of Infant In Her Care

childree-300x200Huntingburg (NNDC) – A local woman has been charged in connection with the death of a two-month-old infant girl that was in her care at the time.

Arrested was 26-year old Rachelle Childree (pictured).

Huntingburg police were called to Childree’s apartment home in the 200 block of North Arjem back on November 29th.

HPD says when Memorial Hospital EMTs and Huntingburg First Responders arrived at the apartment, they found the infant had passed away.

A subsequent joint investigation with both the Dubois County Coroner’s office and the county office of the Indiana Department of Child Services says Childree was watching the infant that afternoon in her home along with two of her own children.  The deceased infant was not related to Childree according to police.

After the investigation findings were turned over to the Dubois County Prosecuting Attorney’s office, a warrant for Childree’s arrest was issued.

No details have been released regarding the cause of the infant’s death.

She was taken into custody at her residence at 4:10pm Thursday (this) afternoon.

Childree is charged with two Level One  felony counts of Neglect of a Dependent Causing Death.

She is being held on a $20,000 cash bond.
