Jasper Woman Arrested For Sexual Misconduct With Minor

Washington, IN (NNDC) – A Jasper woman was arrested last week in Daviess County on a warrant for sexual misconduct with a minor.

24-year old Tabitha Benton is accused of ‘engaging in inappropriate sexual behaviors’ with a 15-year-old male.

A joint investigation with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, and the Daviess County Department of Child Services was launched back in September when DCDCS was notified of possible sexual abuse on several occasions in 2016 involving a 15-year old male and an 18-year old woman, first identified as Britney Freeman.

Investigators later learned that Freeman was actually Benton.

Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office says the investigation began after an acquaintance of Benton’s in Huntingburg called police for fear that Benton had tried to possibly self-abort her baby at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

The prosecutor’s office says Benton was treated for complications with the pregnancy which ended with the loss of the unborn infant; there was no attempt by her to abort the baby.

The prosecutor’s office investigator Rick Chambers says Benton did admit to him about the relationship with the minor male.  That information was related to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.

Benton was arrested last Thursday charged with a Level 4 felony count of sexual misconduct with a minor.  She is free on bond from the Daviess County Jail.
