Forest Park Upsets Mater Dei In 2A Opener Again; Jasper Loses 3A Opener To Host Lincoln

Jasper (NNDC) – Forest Park avenged a early regular season loss by upsetting the 2A #8 Evansville Mater Dei Lady Wildcats 56-44 in the Class 2A Girls Basketball Sectional Opener Tuesday night at Buechler Arena in Ferdinand.

Its the second year in a row the Lady Rangers have upset Mater Dei in the 2A Sectional opening round.

Mater Dei led 9-8 after the first quarter, but the Lady Rangers then outscored the Lady Wildcats 48-35 over the final three quarters enroute to the win, including a decisive 20-12 in the final period.

Senior Shelby Louden led all scorers with 22 points as Forest Park improves to 15-10 with the win.    She was the only Lady Ranger in double figures.  Linette Blume added eight.

Forest Park lost to Mater Dei 43-40 during the regular season in a game played at Evansville back on November 22nd.

Forest Park advances to the 2A Sectional semifinals Friday night, also at Buechler Arena, taking on Pocket Athletic Conference foe South Spencer at 8:00pm.

The Lady Rangers defeated South Spencer 77-42 during the regular season back on January 17th.  Mater Dei finishes the 2016-17 season at 14-8.


Vincennes Lincoln 56  Jasper 42

Vincennes (NNDC) – The Lady Alices advance to the 3A Sectional semifinals with an impressive 56-42 win over fellow Big 8 conference foe Jasper in Tuesday’s tournament opener at Alice Arena, 56-42.

Lincoln is the defending sectional champion.  Its also the second year in a row the Lady Alices have eliminated Jasper from the tournament.

Jasper finishes the 2016-17 season with a 10-13 record having lost five of their final six games of the season.

Lincoln (18-6) will play Southridge in the second 3A sectional semifinal Friday night, also at Alice Arena.  The two teams did not play during the regular season.

Southridge (7-13) enters the game having lost five of their last six games.
