Indiana Republicans Hosting “Pothole Contest!”

Indianapolis (WEHT/NNDC) – Taking a picture of potholes in Indiana could get you statewide recognition.

Indiana Republican lawmakers are having a social media contest to bring awareness about their long-term road funding bill.

To participate in the contest, all you have to do is find a pothole and post it to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram using the hashtag #IndianaPotholes.

The winning photo will be featured in the Indiana House Chamber if the Republican’s road plan passes.

That plan, introduced by statehouse Republicans in early January,   says an estimated$2 billion is now needed to maintain the state’s roads and bridges.

A proposed 10 cent gas tax increase is estimated to generate around $700 million of that.

Combined with possible new toll roads, lawmakers say that the revenue needed could be generated.

Here is how the contest works, if you see a pothole, take a picture of it then upload it to social media using the hashtag  #Indianapotholes.
