Clarence “Ponce” Kunkler, 85, St. Anthony

Clarence KunklerClarence “Ponce” Kunkler, 85, of St. Anthony, died Sunday (January 29) at Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in St. Anthony October 27, 1931, to Leonard and Mary Rose (Englert) Kunkler. He married Rose Marie Horney August 30, 1958, at St. Anthony Church.

Clarence served as a military policeman during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Indiana Desk Company in Jasper where he worked for many years. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish – St. Anthony Campus and VFW Post No. 673 in Jasper. He enjoyed gardening, casino trips, country music, and his Farmall tractors.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie “Toots” Kunkler; two daughters, Brenda Tuggle and husband Kevin and Glenda Theising and husband Jeff, all of Jasper; and one sister, Laura Kunkler, Huntingburg.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Kunkler.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Church of Padua Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Divine Mercy Parish St. Anthony Campus. A Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church followed by burial in the church cemetery. VFW Post 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
