Jasper Police: Known Sex Offender Now Charged With Stalking With Knives



Jasper (NNDC) – A local man, who’s Huntingburg address is listed on the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry has been arrested for allegedly looking in the window of a home Thursday morning in Jasper.

JPD says officers made contact with 29-year old Gary Hires when they arrived on scene at about 2:00am in the 200 block of South St. Charles Street.  JPD says Hires had knives in his possession.

Upon further investigation, a female victim told officers Hires had been tapping on windows and trying to look inside her home.

JPD detective Sgt. Jeremy Lee says Hires is a registered offender on the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry.  His registered address is 316 North Chestnut Street in Huntingburg.

He was convicted of sexual battery in Dubois County in 2012.

According to the Dubois County Security Center’s website, Hires has been arrested a total of 17 times since 2005.  Five of the arrests were for Sexual Battery or Domestic Battery.  Most of the arrests have been for parole violations, or contempt of court.

Police say Hires has now been charged with a Level 4 felony count of Stalking with a Deadly Weapon and a misdemeanor count of False Informing.
