James C. Himsel, 91, Jasper

james-himselJames C. Himsel, 91, of Jasper, died Sunday (January 8) at his home. He was born in Haysville December 17, 1925, to Edward and Helene (Koenig) Himsel. He married Viola V. Recker April 17, 1953. She died December 28, 2016.

James was a World War II Army veteran and served in the European theatre. He was a retired construction worker and a member of the local Labor Union No. 561. He also worked as a machinists for McDonnnell Douglas Air Craft and Caterpillar. He was a member of VFW Post 673 in Jasper and loved reading, history, and genealogy

He is survived by six daughters, Wanda Haas, Jasper, Mary Hohl. Santa Claus, Angela Himsel Sacks (Selig), New York, New York, Elizabeth Eblen and husband Doug, Greenwood, Sarah Burcon and husband David, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Rachael Himsel, Bloomington; four sons, James R. Himsel and Edward Himsel and wife Kathy, all of Jasper, Paul Himsel, Terre Haute, and John Himsel, Dubois; 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Viola Watson, Houston, Texas.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter, Abby Himsel, two grandchildren, Phillip Haas and Nina Marie Himsel, and one brother, Robert Himsel.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Redemption Christian Church in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family. Funeral services 2 p.m. Friday at Redemption Christian Church with burial following in Community Cemetery in Haysville. VFW. Post No. 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
