Clara E. “Edie” Merkley, 89, Portersville

clara-merkleyClara E. “Edie” Merkley, 89, of Portersville, died Saturday (January 7) at the Waters of Huntingburg. She was born in Perry County December 6, 1927, to Edward and Edna (Albin) Hartwick. She married Hubert Merkley September 26, 1992, in Jasper.

Edie retired from Jasper Desk Company where she was employed for 26 years. She enjoyed fishing, quilting, gardening, and reading.

She is survived by her husband, Hubert Merkley, Portersville; three daughters, Diana Seger and husband Mike, Celestine, Pat Wininger, Haysville, and Linda Fuhrman and husband Tom, Otwell; two sons, Larry Bouillon and wife Brenda, Jasper, and Gary Bouillon and wife Linda, Otwell; eight step children. Pamela Chavain, and Randy, Sara, Dennis, JoAnn, Hubert, Jr., Darrel, and Nancy Merkley; 11 granchilder; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bonnie Gerber, Petersburg.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Rodenhouse, two grandchildren, Danny Joe Bouillon and Tracy Lynn Law, one step son, Roger Merkley, one sister; Kathleen Faulkenberg, and three brothers; Louis, Alfred, and Allen Hartwick.

Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family. Pastor Larry Van Camp will officiate.
