Silas W. Spaulding, 83, Jasper

s%e2%80%8eilas-spauldingSilas W. Spaulding, 83, of Jasper, died Thursday (January 5) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Alfordsville October 4, 1933, to William and Catherine (Colvin) Spaulding. He married Beverly Batchelor October 1, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Washington.

Silas retired from DMI in Ferdinand after many years of employment. Following his retirement he worked in security at Jasper Engines and Transmissions. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. He enjoyed collecting coins as a hobby and was involved in the original Dubois County Coin Club. He was also an organizer in the development of the Patoka Valley Center in Jasper.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly A. Spaulding; one daughter, Kim Street, Jasper; one son, Ron Spaulding and wife Sue, Jasper; four granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Margaret Bridgewater, Loogootee, Claire Batchelor, Plainfield, Martha Cox, Kentucky, and Mary Beasley and Carolyn Blake, both of Bedford; and two brothers, James Spaulding and wife Luella, Washington, and Tony Spaulding and wife Lorna, Mitchell.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherri Spaulding, four sisters, Pat Crane, Louise Wheeler, Elvina Spaulding, and Rose Mary Robinson, and two brothers, Frank and Joe Spaulding.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. Funeral services at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church with burial following in St. John’s Cemetery in Washington.
