Celestine Siren Silent; Needed Repair Expected Quickly (AUDIO)

Celestine (NNDC) – Wednesday night’s retest of the emergency alert siren in Celestine discovered a problem with it.

Fire Chief Ryan Wineinger was among those in town that monitored the test, and reported immediately back to county officials the siren, “did not sound!”

Dubois County Emergency Management Agency director Tammy Humbert says she has already contacted the Indianapolis-based company that is responsible for the upkeep and needed repairs of the county’s 22 emergency sirens.

She expects the Celestine siren to be back in operation very soon…

Wineinger and Humbert are encouraging all residents of Celestine to be aware of the problem and encourage residents who have SAME weather radios to make sure the radios have fresh batteries and have them ready to notify if severe weather coming to the area.

An EF1 tornado did considerable damage when it hit Celestine the night of February 28, 2011.
