Celestine Emergency Siren To Be Retested (w/AUDIO)

Celestine (NNDC) – Local officials were not able to confirm the emergency alert siren in Celestine is working as it should following a county-wide test of sirens on New Year’s Day.

Tammy Miller is the county’s Emergency Management Agency’s director…

The Celestine siren is located just west of the town’s fire station along Indiana 164.  Its one of 22 monitored and tested by the Dubois County EMA office.  The 22 include those in the city limits of Huntingburg and Ferdinand.  Jasper’s are maintained and tested by city officials.

Fire chief Ryan Wineinger says the Celestine siren will be retested tomorrow (Wednesday) evening at 6.

Celestine was hard hit by an EF-1 tornado on February 28, 2011. Concerns arose after the tornado about the county’s alarm system which prompted new sirens to be installed to replace aging ones and initiate more vigorous, regular testing of the system altogether…

In 2011, the tornado that hit Celestine (see photo below)  initially touched down near Duff.
