Norbert J. Schroeder, 92, Jasper

norb-schroederNorbert J. Schroeder, 92, of Jasper, died Saturday (December 31) at his home. He was born in Celestine November 18, 1924, to Herman J. and Katherine (Schroering) Schroeder. He married Verena Hopf June 8, 1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. She died December 28, 2013.

Norbert retired from Kimball International (Jasper Corporation Division) in Jasper. He was active in the Jasper community and Precious Blood Catholic Church. He was a member of Precious Blood Church and the Jasper Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Schroeder, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; two sons, Rev. Eugene Schroeder, Evansville, and Thomas E. Schroeder and wife Jo Ann, Newburgh; son-in-law Jerry Vestweber, Mt. Prospect, Illinois; nine grandchildren, James and Cassandra Vestweber, Mellissa Dragoo, Laura Armes, Thomas J. and Benjamin Schroeder, Valerie Clarke, Jeremy Jackson, and Lori Coole; 15 great-grandchildren, Madison, Zachary, Brianna, Larissa, Anthony, Trevor, Kaylin, Maverick, Dillon, Aleigha, Natalie, Callie, Elijah, Annalyse, and Harper; one sister, Marie Beckman, Celestine; three sisters-in-law, Bernie Schnell, Theresa Hopf, and Kathy (Luckie) Hopf; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Vestweber, three sisters, Rosina Mehringer, Veronica Mehringer, and Bernadette Schroering; and five brothers, Jerome, Joseph, Alois, Edward, Rev. Othmar, and Rev. Sylvester Schroeder.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Precious Blood Church. A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Norbert and Verena Schroeder endowment for Precious Blood Parish. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Precious Blood Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
