Olive Jane Spraggins, 94, Huntingburg

olive-spraggins-obit-photo801_edited-1Olive Jane Spraggins, 94, of Huntingburg, died Friday (December 30) at The Waters of  Huntingburg. She was born in Birdseye June 3, 1922, to Claude and Ada (Atkins) Ford. She married Russell Glenn Spraggins (a Purple Heart medal recipient in World War II) January 25, 1943, in  English. He died May 22, 2007.

Olive was a homemaker and was employed by General Electric before the company moved to Tell City. She worked as a nursing home aide at Good Samaritan in Jasper, was a waitress at Yaggie’s Restaurant in Jasper, and was a cook at several area restaurants. She was a member of the Huntingburg V.F.W. Post #2366 Ladies Auxiliary and the Birdseye Christian Church.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Polen and  Ruby, who died in infancy.

She is survived by one son, Donald Glenn Spraggins, Birdseye; three daughters, Linda Lou Dilger and husband James, Ferdinand, and Janice Jean Jones and husband Joe, and Anita Darlene Ackerman, all of Jasper; one brother, Henry Lee Ford and wife Debbie, Huntingburg; two sisters, Evelyn Young, Birdseye and Rita Eckert, Huntingburg; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A V.F.W. Post #2366 Ladies Auxiliary memorial vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared at .

Funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home with burial following in Mentor Cemetery near Birdseye. Rev. Albert Madden will officiate at the service.
