Ronald J. Berger, 81, Jasper

ron-bergerRonald J. Berger, 81, of Jasper, died Monday (December 26) at his home. He was born in Jasper August 3, 1935, to Odillo and Carolyn (Kunkel) Berger. He married Linda Kemp September 10, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. She died June 22, 2012.

Ron was a United States Navy veteran, serving from 1954 to 1958. He worked at the Jasper Corporation and then retired from the Jasper City Police Department, where he served as a police officer for 20 years. Following his retirement he worked for the Jasper Municipal Golf Course. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and enjoyed watching football and baseball, especially the Oakland Raiders and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He is survived by three sons, Keith Berger and wife Carrie, Tim Berger and wife Dana, and Mike Berger and wife Candace, all of Jasper; one sister, Susan Slott, Jasper; and four grandchildren, Colten, Chloe, Kyle, and Sydney Berger.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one grandson, Ronald Anthony Berger.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family. Online condolences may be made at www.becherkluesner.com. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. American Legion Post No. 147 will conduct military graveside rights.
