Arthur J. Schnell, 92, Celestine

arthur-schnellArthur J. Schnell, 92, of Celestine, died Saturday (December 24) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. He was born in Celestine November 15, 1924, to Jacob and Thresia (Hauser) Schnell. He married Henrietta M. Auffart January 12, 1952, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.

Arthur was a lifelong farmer and worked in real estate as an agent for Key Associates in French Lick. He served on the board of the Celestine Fire Insurance Company for more than 30 years. He was a graduate of Cuzco High School, a member of the Celestine campus of St. Isidore Catholic Church, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, his dogs, and working outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Henrietta M. Schnell, Jasper; two daughters, Mary Voegerl and husband Randy, and Shirley Hagedorn and husband Linus, all of Celestine; one son, Allen E. Schnell and wife Sheryl L., Dubois; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters; Margaret Vogler, Marie Mundy, and Lorena Gutgsell, and three brothers, Anthony, Edwin, and Hilbert H. Schnell.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Isidore Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Isidore Church or to a favorite charity. Condolences may be made at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with burial following in the church cemetery.
