Jasper (NNDC) – An early Sunday morning traffic stop has landed a Jasper man in jail on a felony charge.

Jasper police say 42-year old John Roelle was spotted by officers allegedly committing several traffic offenses shortly after 2:00AM Sunday near the intersection of Justin Street and Third Avenue.

JPD says the pickup Roelle was driving was observed disregarding a stop sign while not using a turn signal.  He was then observed driving left of center.

JPD says officers determined that Roelle was under the influence of alcohol.

He was taken to Memorial Hospital where his blood alcohol content measured .283%, three-and-a-half times the legal limit to drive in Indiana.

JPD says the Operating While Intoxicated Charge he now faces is a Level 6 felony because Roelle has a prior conviction of the same charge in the last five years.

He was charged with Operating While Intoxicated, leaving the scene of property damage accident, and obstruction of justice following an accident back on February 4th, 2014.
