Jasper (NNDC) – A late Thursday night traffic stop on Jasper’s far southside has landed a local habitual traffic offender in jail.

Jasper police say at about 11:25PM, officers stopped a car for speeding.

JPD says the driver of the car was 27-year old Andrew Jones of Jasper who JPD says was clocked traveling more than 25MPH over the speed limit along U. S. 231 just south of Wernsing Road.

JPD says Jones, already a convicted habitual traffic violator, also appeared to be intoxicated. He was taken to Memorial Hospital for what police call “medical clearance.” JPD says Jones tested .16% blood alcohol content. Earlier, officers found marijuana and paraphernalia in Jones’ possession.

He’s been charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, Driving as a Habitual Traffic Violator, as well as Possession of both Marijuana and Paraphernalia.
