Thomas L. Sternberg, 70, Jasper

tom-sternbergThomas L. Sternberg, 70, of Jasper, died Tuesday (November 29) at his home. He was born in Jasper April 11, 1946, to Albert “Jack” and Dorothy (Gunselman) Sternberg. He married Patricia Schwenk January 24, 1970, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper.

Tom was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Germany. He was an owner of Sternberg Automotive Group, headquartered in Jasper with affiliates in Louisville, Evansville, Bloomington, and Dale. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper and its Holy Name men’s sodality, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and the Jasper Kiwanis. He enjoyed golf, playing sheepshead, bowling, pickleball, going to the grandkids’ sporting events, and, of course, selling cars.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Sternberg; two sons, Derek Sternberg and wife Vicki and Curtis Sternberg and wife Nancy, all of Jasper; five grandchildren, Dillon, Madison, Kiersten, Kyle, and Andrew Sternberg; one brother; Steve Sternberg and wife Grace, Louisville, Kentucky; his step-mother, Carol Sternberg, Bloomington; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Sternberg, Jr.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or to the Dubois County Leukemia Association. Online condolences may be made at A Mass of Christian Burial begins at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Church with entombment following in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. VFW Post No. 673 will conduct military gravesite rites.
