Huntingburg (NNDC) – A Huntingburg man was arrested early Saturday on a felony charge of strangulation.

Huntingburg police say they were called to what was described as a possible domestic situation where a female victim was battered at a home in the 500 block of East Fifth Street.

HPD says 21-year old Zachary John Seger (pictured) allegedly kept the victim from calling 911 during the incident.

HPD says further investigation also discovered Seger had allegedly blocked the victim’s airway.

Seger is charged with a Level 6 felony count of strangulation along with misdemeanor counts of domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a crime.

Jasper (NNDC) – A Jasper man is facing several charges after police say his car struck a utility police in the city and flipped over onto its side.

Arrested was 22-year old Grant Kimmel.

Jasper police were notified of an accident at about 9:15PM Friday in the 2600 block of Birk Drive.  JPD say they also received a call the driver had left the scene of the accident on foot.

Police say Kimmel was located a short distance from the accident, near the 26th Street and Birk Drive.  He was the driver of the car that struck the utility pole and flipped on a guide wire.

JPD says an investigating officer detected the odor of burnt marijuana on Kimmel as well as an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.

JPD says two beer bottles and what is called a “one-hitter” box were found in Kimmel’s car.

Police also say Kimmel initially refused a chemical test before consenting to a blood draw at Memorial Hospital which police say tested his blood alcohol content at .076%.  Police say Kimmel also tested positive for marijuana and benzodiazepine.

Kimmel is charged with misdemeanor counts of operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police say he was also cited for driving with expired license plates and for an open container violation.
