Irma E. Dilger, 99, Ferdinand

irma-dilgerIrma E. Dilger, 99, of Ferdinand, died Monday (November 21) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in Ferdinand October 26, 1917, to Henry and Clara (Bickwermert) Kerstiens. She married Theodore A. Dilger August 30, 1938, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. He died May 8, 2003.

Irma was a seamstress for several years and a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of St. Ferdinand Parish, the St. Anne Sodality, Ferdinand Daughters of Isabella, and Ferdinand Extension homemakers. She enjoyed quilting, was an avid card player, and enjoyed being with family and friends.

She is survived by one son, Albert Dilger and wife Patricia, Ferdinand, five daughters, Marguerite Hubers and husband James, Ferdinand, Donna Meyer and husband Ed, Huntingburg, Lois Hobbs and husband Wayne, Golden, Colorado, Louise Brames and husband Tom, St. Anthony, and Cathy Mehne and husband John, Corpus Christie, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann Olinger, one son-in-law, Sherman Jones, one great-grandson, Abram Burger, one sister, Edna Kathery, and one brother, Cletus Kerstiens.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Ferdinand Church Endowment Fund or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
