Robert L. Blackgrave, 85, Jasper

robert-blackgraveRobert L. Blackgrave, 85, of Jasper, died Saturday (November 19) at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. He was born in Jasper June 14, 1931, to Hilbert and Catherine (Dittmer) Blackgrave. He married Norma Bender September 2, 1978, at St. Marie, Illinois.

Bob retired as a supervisor for Triangle Pacific. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post No.147 and Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Norma B. Blackgrave; two daughters, Ann Berg and husband Jeff, Jasper, and Jan McGee and husband Butch, Mt. Carmel, Illinois; seven sons, Ron Blackgrave and Steve Bender and fiancé Elena Gillespie, all of Indianapolis, Greg Blackgrave and wife Kristie, Loogootee, Mark Blackgrave, Kevin Blackgrave and wife Melissa, and Jon Blackgrave, all of Jasper, and Mark Bender and wife Debbie, Amherst, New Hampshire; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; three sisters, Mary Freyberger and husband Dan, Dubois, Carol Durst, Petersburg, and Nelda Mendel and husband Ron, Jasper; and one brother, Gus Blackgrave, Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Kern and Bettye Howard, and three brothers, Hilbert Jr., Charles, and William Blackgrave.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or to a favorite charity. Condolences may be made at A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Church with entombment following in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. American Legion Post No. 147 will conduct military gravesite rights.
