Mary M. DeKemper, 87, Ireland

mary-dekemperMary M. DeKemper, 87, of Ireland, died Tuesday (November 15) at Brookside Village in Jasper. She was born in Dubois August 28, 1929, to John R. and Caroline (Schmitt) Mehringer. She married Herman “Buck” DeKemper June 18, 1949. He died April 7, 2003.

Mary was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its St. Anne’s Society and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed quilting, antiquing, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Leinenbach and Phyllis Krodel and husband Tom, all of Jasper, and Carol Stetter and husband Larry, Ireland; one daughter-in-law, Beverly DeKemper, Jasper; one son, Michael DeKemper, Ireland; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and one sister, Florence Sweeney, Middletown, Ohio.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, John DeKemper, one grandson, Christopher Krodel, one son-in-law, Greg Leinenbach, three sisters, Leona Schwartz, Marcella Fleck, and Catherine Dotterweich, and six brothers, Silas, Lucas, Emil, Victor, Leo, and Claude Mehringer.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel. The St. Mary’s St. Anne’s Society will pray a rosary at 3:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church or to a favorite charity.
