Coping With An “Indescribable Loss” (VIDEO)

Bloomington (WEHT/NNDC) – The Castle High School community is coping with the loss of beloved student and two members of her family.
Christina Van Zelst with our media partner, WEHT/WTVW tells us more about Sophie Rinehart and her family…

Indiana State Police say the driver of the pickup truck was 19-year old Mason Hartkey.   Meanwhile, the principle at Castle High School says there will counselors at school today (Monday) to help students and staff need it.

A NIGHT THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO END IN A HISTORIC WIN — ENDED WITH AN INDESCRIBABLE LOSS.

THE RINEHARTS WERE DRIVING HOME FROM THE BANDS OF AMERICA NATIONALS — A COMPETITION THE CASTLE MARCHING BAND HAS NEVER QUALIFIED FOR.
THE BAND GOT 10TH IN THE NATION — BUT AFTER A HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE SCHOOL — NO ONE WAS PREPARED FOR WHAT WOULD HAPPEN NEXT.
“Kind of shocking to even hear about it.”
    INDIANA STATE POLICE SAY THE RINEHARTS WERE DRIVING ON I-69 IN BLOOMINGTON WHEN THEY HIT A DEER.. AND PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD..
THEN.. A TRUCK HIT THE PARKED CAR… THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH NON LIFE THREATENING INJURIES..
SOPHIE — WAS A BELOVED MEMBER OF THE CASTLE KNIGHTS MARCHING BAND.

WHILE THE CASTLE BANDROOM WAS FILLED WITH SILENCE TONIGHT — THE SOUNDS OF SOPHIE’S VOICE AND THE MEMORIES OF THEIR FAMILY WILL PLAY ON FOREVER.
