Mildred E. Baer, 96, Jasper

mildred-baerMildred E. Baer, 96, of Jasper, died Friday (November 11) in the Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born in Haysville November 11, 1920, to Robert and Lorena (Krodel) Buchta. She was married to and preceded in death by two husbands; Henry Freyberger, who died April 11, 1962, and Linus Baer, who died on May 4, 2008.

Mildred was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Women’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Association (WELCA). She was a quilter, baker, homemaker, and gardener, and enjoyed her grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Larry Freyberger and wife Judy, Jasper; one step-daughter, Nancy Baer, Jasper; one step-son, Tim Baer and wife Judy, Ireland; one daughter-in-law, Marie Freyberger, Ireland; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and two husbands she was preceded in death by one son, Richard Freyberger, one step-son, David Baer, two great-grandchildren, three brothers, Robert Buchta, Cletus Buchta, and one brother, Ralph, who died in infancy, one step-brother, Vic Cochran, and two step-sisters, Alice Frye and Maxine Weisman.

Friends may call from 1-6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Church. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with burial following in St. John’s Cemetery in Boone Township. Rev. Catherine Burnette will officiate.
