Rose Mary Steltenpohl, 94, Ferdinand

edith-steltenpohlRose Mary Steltenpohl, 94, of Ferdinand, died Monday (November 7) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born in Ferdinand June 18, 1922, to Ben and Frances (Weyer) Laake. She married Herman Steltenpohl September 18, 1945, at St. Ferdinand Church. He died August 30, 2001.

Rose was a cook at Marian Heights Academy and worked in Holiday Foods and Red and White grocery stores. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Church and its St. Anne’s Sodality and Daughters of Isabella, Ferdinand Senior Citizens, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Auxiliary, and a Life Member of Ferdinand Community Center. She enjoyed embroidering, quilting, cooking, canning, baking, and playing cards and games. She enjoyed time with family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan A. (Mark) Bruner and husband Mark, Chattanooga, Tennessee,. and Judith “Judy” R. Schmidt and husband Marty, Noblesville;  four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Emil and Linus Laake; and one sister, Alice Olinger.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday and from 7-9 a.m. Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ferdinand Parish or Sisters of St. Benedict. Online condolences may be shared at Funeral Services at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
