Donald Ray Broeker, 74, Huntingburg

don-broekerDonald Ray Broeker, 74, of Huntingburg, died Sunday (October 30) at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center. He was born in Huntingburg November 11, 1941, to Ralph and Mary (Kluemper) Broeker. He married Patricia A. Messmer February 22, 1962, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

Donald worked at Kimball Jasper Corporation and Hospitality as a woodworker and line supervisor. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, the Y.M.I. Club, and Huntingburg High School’s Happy Hunters. He was an avid Southridge Raiders and sports fan and enjoyed model trains, cooking, and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Broeker; two daughters, Lynn Scheu and husband Dave and Lisa Kern and husband Michael, all of Jasper; two sisters, Diane Mehringer and husband Eugene, Ireland, and Annette Kugler and husband Mike, Atlanta, Georgia; three brothers, John Broeker and wife Peg, Huntingburg, Ralph “Bill Broeker and wife Shirley, Oakland City, and Richard Broeker and wife Joan, Rockport, and five grandchildren, Brandie, Heath, and Logan Astrike, and Max and Levi Kern.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, David Broeker.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A parish rosary prayer service, led by Deacon Thomas Holsworth, is scheduled at 6:30 in the Nass & Son Chapel followed by a vigil service conducted by members of the Y.M.I. Club. Condolences may be shared with the family online at: Funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Church. The mass will be celebrated by Father Ryan Hilderbrand.
