Outstanding Performances By Local Bands At State Finals (VIDEO)

Indianapolis (NNDC) – For the first time since 2012, all three Dubois County high school marching bands who compete in Open Classes with other bands from across the state, qualified for this past Saturday’s Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) marching band state finals.

According to those close to the Jasper, Southridge and Forest Park bands, all three turned in their best performances of the marching season on Saturday…

Class B was the first to perform Saturday, and Jasper was first of all the bands to take the field.

Despite the early performance time, the Marching Wildcats turned in their best performance of the season of their show, a Mid-Autumn Night’s Dream… but was it good enough to win its first state championship since 2012…(CLASS B ANNOUNCEMENT OF JASPER AS THIRD PLACE)

The third place finish, the best for the band in the five years since winning it all…(DANIELLE BUECHLEIN).

Northview took top honors in Class B.


Two local bands were in the Class D finals, including the Marching Raiders who won a state title back in 1976. Back at the state finals for the first time since 2012.

One of the smallest bands to perform on Saturday saved their best performance of Wild Garden In A Formal Setting for the state finals…(LANNIE BUTLER ON CAMERA).

Also performing Saturday, the four-time defending Class D state champions, Forest Park. The Marching Rangers turned in an outstanding performance of their show, Jewel Tones. Even drum major Katie Winkler with a big approving smile on her face, but was it good enough for a fifth straight title…(ANNOUNCEMENT OF FOREST PARK AS RUNNERSUP)

Springs Valley, the class runner up to Forest Park the last four years, breaks through with the Marching Blackhawks’ third ever state title.

Forest Park has won the Class D state title 10 times.

SIDE NOTE: 2016 was also a first for local bands as the Northeast Dubois Marching Jeeps qualified for the ISSMA Scholastic Class B State Finals October 22nd at Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis. It was NDHS’ first-ever marching band state finals making this season the first that all four local schools’ band were state finalists!
